Tierra Lewis grew up in Houston's Third Ward in a house where the record player never stopped. She worked behind the counter of a record shop on Almeda for years and spent her twenties DJing every bar that would have her.

At thirty she opened her own listening bar: walnut walls, one big pair of speakers, a turntable on a stand and a curved velvet booth at the back that is hers alone.
